13 June 2014 - 12 July 2014
Our current exhibition is Resurrection by Jessica Albarn which is showing at the gallery space on new Compton Street until July 12th.
The lost beauty of the dead is revisited and revived in this exceptional new solo show by artist Jessica Albarn. This unique event explores modern concerns with extinction and the preservation of the rare and the dying.
Following the exhibition’s debut at The Crypt, Bristol, Resurrection brings Albarn’s horror and fascination with death to this intimate space in London. On display there is a selection of all new artwork including paintings on glass, clay and canvas as well as Jessica’s signature drawings on paper.
Discussing her motivation for the show Albarn commented: ‘My interest in death began when as a child my first rabbit died and I dug it up. I must have been five or six at the time. What drove me to do it was my desire to resurrect my rabbit and hold on to the life that was lost. It was an experience that had a big impact on my creativity in future years. I draw dead things because I want to draw out the beauty, preserve it and disconnect it from the decay. I treasure it and in some sense resurrect it.’
