Contemporary Art Exhibitions & Events
11 April 2014 - 10 May 2014
Our current exhibition at our New Compton Street gallery is FLUX by British painter Tom French. This show has now been EXTENDED until May 10th due to popular demand.
FLUX focuses on the reflection of the conscious and unconscious mind, with Tom’s paintings skilfully combining academic realism and surrealism with carefree, loose and unfinished abstract forms.
The striking oil paintings on offer in the exhibition serve-up a unique fusion of figurative realism and lively abstraction that brings life movement and intrigue.
In this, French’s newest body of work, he continues upon his Duality series, exploring his dynamic skull motif. The figures within his paintings reflect the conscious mind, interacting with people and going about their business, unaware of the bigger picture - the face or skull - which reflects the unconscious mind - the instinctual, yet hidden, human drives which shape our actions.
Discussing the works Tom French explained:
Though many of the works appear initially sinister, this is not always the case - encouraging a sense of self awareness and mortality can in fact be quite liberating.
